12WBT: REVIEW OF ROUND 1, 2012
Initial Wakeup Call
While pregnant with my son, I bought a gorgeous dress to wear to an upcoming wedding. My son was born in January 2011 and the wedding was December 2011 – surely I would be able to fit into my new size 8 dress by then?! Yes?? Um. No.
A few weeks before the wedding I tried on my new dress.
Verdict – a big fat fail. Literally.
During my pregnancy I managed to put on 20kgs (no thanks to the crazy
concoction of lupus medication I was on at the time! Let’s just say that high
dose prednisone is not too kind on the hips!). I assumed that I would just
naturally lose the weight after baby was born, but that was definitely not the
case.
In the end I had to wear a different dress to the wedding – one that I
had worn to a previous wedding earlier that year... ok, doesn’t sound too bad,
but the alternate dress was one that I wore 3 months after my son was born and while
I was still breastfeeding, so let’s just say that the dress was quite a “comfortable”
fit.
An emergency caesarean + dealing with motherhood + active lupus +
going back to work = very tired and unmotivated Mummy
Final Wakeup Call
January 2012 and my son’s first birthday was fast approaching. Everything
was organised, well everything except my outfit. Being a kids party, I
concluded that the simple ensemble of jeans and a top would be the safest
option. Only problem was that I could not fit into any of my jeans!! I then
found myself buying a size 12 pair of stretchy ¾ jeans, and that was it for me.
Something had to change.
